RE: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: NigerianID | STAR PLEA: Please Allow General Ihejirika To Defend Himself - Haba!! - by Kabiru Tsakuwa

The Boko Haram insurgency (BKS) is arguably the most serious matter of public interest in Nigeria today.  BKS is no longer an imminent threat to Nigeria's wholeness. It is an existential and sustained threat. Informed Nigerians know what is going on. Many of them also believe they know its genesis. They say Nigerians were warned in public statements by some prominent politicians and religious leaders that such an insurgency would happen if…..

The surprise about Boko Haram (BK) for these Nigerians I suspect, is not BK's coming into being but its brutality, endurance, reach and "success". Another surprise is the extent to which its believed promoters and intended beneficiaries have lost control of it. They have in some cases become victims. BK has redefined its mission following its rejection of its original script. It has become an evolving terrorist organization as most of them tend to be. It is now a business.

Everyone should live the life they preach. It is not alright for one to speak for another when it serves their purpose and deny others the same right. People have also spoken for others on matters of public interest. People have always spoken for others even when those who are spoken for could speak for themselves. That should continue. Solicitation has never been a necessary condition for such speeches. Personal and group interest can be incentives especially in an unequal opportunity country.

What is also true is that some speaking for others is not reason enough for proper investigations by appropriate authorities not to happen. While public conversations can actually be helpful, they can also be distractive. They can intentionally be intended to delay successful digging out the truth. Professional investigation can take care of the distractions however. There are some who claim that President Jonathan was/is a Boko Haram sponsor and supporter. That is laughable and must be a distraction. There are no obvious or natural reasons for General Ihejirika to be a sponsor or supporter. What might be the incentive or his motivation? Does anyone see a likely probable-cause for him to be? This too may be a distraction. Are there obvious or natural reasons for all other alleged sponsors or supporters to be who they are believed to be? Everyone must make their own determination in each case. All allegations should be investigated.

The way is there for a thorough investigation to take place. What is not clear to me is whether there is the will.

Joe Attueyi:

Let me repeat: ANYBODY, including ANY former CBN governor, dead or alive, should be investigated if they have been AUTHORITATIVELY mentioned in a manner that is CONCEIVABLE associated with terrorism - or corruption for that matter.  It is that non-challance that might get far more people killed over Ebola.  If it is Sanusi that has been mentioned - and I have NOT seen him mentioned in this particular Steven Davis context - then he too should be investigated...no sacred cows.

It is that simple.  Even BEFORE I returned to the US in 2011, Ambassador John Campbell had been warning about Boko Haramic tendencies in the North(East), but he was harangued and dismissed as a noise-maker, a hater of Nigeria.

See where we are now....

And there you have it.

Even yourself? There seems to be a certain bent among commentators of a certain hue to refrain from mentioning the ' CBN official

' that was named by Davis

I wonder why?

Before we get to 'even yourself' not mention ed by Davis can we first add the 'CBN official ' to the list?

Following the money is a fast way of unravelling the truth. Ask DEEPTHROAT!

My People:

In security matters, nothing can be ruled in or ruled out, even the most preposterous propositions such as the involvement of General Ihejirika with Boko Haram misadventure.  Just investigate each thoroughly, and do not allow silly primordial sentiments to color the judgments and foul the air.

This rush to judgment and defence of "home boys" and other local heros and benefactors of sundry hues has been the bane of progress in Nigeria, where punches are pulled very primordially, and politics is made out of every matter, no matter how serious, including corruption, and Ebola of all things.  It is part of what got us into this situation where "a hitherto rag-tag group of brain-washed and indoctrinated group of people metamorphosed into a well nit and better armed terror group; effortlessly curbing their own territory and confidently taking the war into the door steps of Nigerian army instead of the other way round!!!"

Gov. Bonu Sheriff, General Ihejerika and even myself, if named, should be INVESTIGATED THOROUGHLY.  DSS Marylyn Ogar - rather voluble, one would state, for a Secret Service spokesperson - and others have no business defending ANYBODY until a thorough investigation has been done.

Yes.....and there you have it.

Please Allow General Ihejirika To Defend Himself!!

Since the damning revelation by reverend Stephen Davis about alleged Boko-Haram Sponsors hit the airwaves, frantic and ceaseless efforts in defense of the accused has become the new pastime in the vain effort to preempt justice.

Of particular note, were the cacophony of spiritless defenses put forward questioning the possible culpability of the former Army Chief, Lt. General Ihejirika in the ongoing unfortunate BH quagmire?

First to exonerate Ihejirika was Mrs. Marilyn Orgah on behalf of the DSS stating that the Former Army general was wrongly accused by the government appointed mediator, Reverend Stephen Davis; and that the other co-accused, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif has a case to answer.

In absolving General Ihejirika however, the spokesperson of the DSS has forgotten that since the unfortunate Apo 8 saga; many Nigerians are finding it hard to believe the DSS again. They have since then become skeptical about any statement issued based on the unfortunate experience of the recent past. And on that account, the DSS appears more believable when it says nothing!

No less amusing was the wishy-washy defenses by motley of Igbo cultural groups who cannot reconcile the fact that an Igbo Christian can be alleged to be an active sponsor of a so-called Islamic Terror Group? In this, they deliberately chose not to recall the many Christians terrorist arrested trying to bomb churches and mosques in places like Miya Barkatai in Bauchi state and Bayelsa state  among several other places?

In a press statement by the United Progressive Party (UPP) which appears in the Sunday trust of 7th/09/2014, Chief Ogbuchi Dike, the chief press secretary of the party wonders how General Ihejirika who flushed out Boko-Haram out of the north east into Sambisa forest can be mention by Reverend Stephen Davis as one of the sponsor of the terrorist outfit; and at the same time be their sponsor?

This analogy fell flat in the face of similar one by the other co-accused-Senator Ali Modu Sharrif. In a widely publicized press release, the senator debunked the allegations and the likelihood of being a sponsor of BH having been directly affected by their atrocities? The same terror group he said, killed two of his cousins, his brother and his gubernatorial candidate in the last 2011 election? And so, according to him, how could a victim be a sponsor at the same time?

Not yet done, and without any shred of evidence, Mr. Fani Kayode corroborated the same inference made by other groups that LT General Ihejirika having fought the Boko-Haram elements to a stand still cannot come back and sponsor the same for whatever reason. And that being a Christian, the former COAS has nothing to do with Boko-Haram. Nothing can be more preposterous and prejudicial to the course of justice. Mr. fani Kayode need to be reminded that the whole issue of BH has nothing to do with the Islamic religion as has been mischievously portray by the enemies of the sacred religion which  succeeded in turning its pure doctrines upside down in the dirty politics of today!

Perhaps, Mr. Kayode need ALSO be reminded about the political statement by the late former National Security Adviser General Owoye Azazi few months before his death to the effect that: 'Power struggles within the PDP was responsible for Boko-Haram'? What can be more political than this?

I'm glad, DHQ are yet to make any categorical statement on this contentious matter. And i think it's within their  enlighten best interest not to delve into it, because since the abduction of the Chibok girls some 140 days ago; especially with claims and counter claims that follows which however turn out to be  white lies; its credibility rating in the eye of Nigerian citizens has nosedived into a record low.

It's therefore all the more curious ongoing frenzy by some groups, organizations and individuals'  who are falling upon themselves in the vain effort to clear General Ihejirika of involvement in the unfortunate blood lettings without first allowing the law to take its rightful course? These makethe whole issue all the more suspicious!

The court of competent jurisdiction remain the only impartial arbiter and should be allow to clear the air via thorough investigations of the two accused persons; given that  it still remain within their fundamental right to freedom from any harm until proven guilty!

The way to go, therefore, in resolving the damning allegation by Reverend Stephen Davis still remains the court. Let the accused go to court to defend themselves and spare us the present laughable effort by busy bodies. This way, Nigerians can have real opportunity to know the truth with regards to the many conspiracy theories woven around atrocities committed by BH like the mysterious killings of civil war veteran late General Mamman Shuwa, and withdrawal of Army check-points moments before Boko Haram struck in places like Buni-yadi, which led to the unfortunate massacre of 65 innocent schools children in cold blood among several other questionable happenings.

This can be an opportunity to know more about what lead to the reported Mutiny; protest by troops' wives; lack of adequate and serviceable hardware, and low morale among troops and the now celebrated 'tactical maneuvers' of our hitherto gallant and distinguished officers and men of the Nigerian Army into Cameroon in hot pursuit of safety net away from superior fire power of the now well armed, better motivated and well trained BH terrorist!

The court can also avail Nigerians the wherewithal to know how a hitherto rag-tag group of brain-washed and indoctrinated group of people metamorphosed into a well nit and better armed terror group; effortlessly curbing their own territory and confidently taking the war into the door steps of Nigerian army instead of the other way round!!!!
