What does Ndoki Ethnic Nationality (NEN) mean? Do crude oil deposits have anything to do with the NEN claim? Why would anyone consider the Ndoki if there is indeed such a people, a distinct ethnic nationality? What about Asa, Akwete and Ukwa Ethnic Nationalities? Is there an Ngwa Ethnic Nationality too? What about Mbaise Ethnic nationality? I could go on.
How long before each small group of a few towns and villages in especially South Eastern Nigeria, claims ethnic distinctness even when they share a common ancestry, culture (including language), and experience with many other groups they consider ethnically different? Is it economics stupid? Are ethnicity distinctness claims the result of confusing dialect and language? The politicization of ethnicity has morphed into the bastardization of ethnicity. It has gone from curious to crazy and now silly. It is creating the artificial difference within the same people that undermines cultural affinity, shared kinship, and much needed wholeness. What is going on?
