USA Africa Dialogue Series - AMERICAN CITIZENS GET MARRIED ON MOUNT KILIMANJARO

AMERICAN CITIZENS GET MARRIED ON MOUNT KILIMANJARO

This is how it started…narrates Kara Lee: "Sometimes back during the last Christmas in Minnesota, United States of America we had an engagement event with my hubby Richard Miller and committed ourselves that the wedding event must be done on the roof top of Africa and this is none other than Kilimanjaro Mountain".

Thereafter, the duo started planning for this historic and unique event by raising money for their trip to Tanzania and in particular Kilimanjaro Mountain. They also informed their relatives about their plan to have their wedding in Mount Kilimanjaro of which they got a green light from them.

They arrived in the country last week and started their seven days Kilimanjaro expedition through Machame route on 20th September, 2014 and spend an overnight at Machame Hut waiting eagerly for their wedding on the following day. Zara Tours Company based in Moshi, Kilimanjaro, organized the Kilimanjaro climb.

Now here is the D-Day:
At Shira cave point where they arrived at around 12:00pm from Machame Hut, other Kilimanjaro climbers are excitedly waiting for this event, which was a talk of the day on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Pastor Aloyce Mbugi from Tanzania Assemblies of God Victory Christian Centre in Arusha started the church service intended to bring together Richard Miller and Kara Lee as wife and husband. The pastor said that good foundation of having a good nation started at the family level and urged the new couple and other invitees to live by that principle.

Escorted by their Patron Ansigar Mtandika and Neema Njau, the newly expected couple stands out from their seats towards the altar where marriage oath was taken.

"Kara Lee from today onwards you are my beloved wife, I will take care of you during happy and hard moments of life until death do us apart" said Richard while putting a wedding ring on the finger of his new wife.

"Richard Lee from today onwards you are my beloved husband, I will take care of you during happy and hard moments of life until death do us apart" said Kara while also putting a wedding ring on the finger of her new husband.

And thereafter there was champagne to wish good life to the new couple followed by event of taking pictures and finally a good menu for the new family and all other invitees and this was the end of the three hours wedding event.

Richard and Kara then proceeded to have their first night as husband and wife at their tent. Today they are proceeding with their Kilimanjaro climb up to Baranco point and they are expected to summit on the rooftop of Mount Kilimanjaro on 24th September, 2014 and descending out at Mweka Gate on 25th September, 2014.

"They look energetic and determined to reach at the peak and I believe they will make it" remarked Teophil Karia, a guide from Zara Tours who organized the climb.

Chief Park Warden for Kilimanjaro National Park Erastus Lufungulo (right) and TANAPA's Corporate Communications Manager Pascal Shelutete (second left) poses in a picture with the newly expected couple at Shira Cave point shortly before they exchanged vows in Mount Kilimanjaro.

The groom Richard Miller is seen putting a wedding ring to the bride Kara Lee in Mount Kilimanjaro.

Kara Lee is also doing the same on wedding ring to her new husband in Mount Kilimanjaro.

It is now time to have a wedding cake in Mount Kilimanjaro
