Note: I encourage folks to consider becoming part of the project. I was a reviewer for the pioneer class of applicants. It was an invaluable experience for me.

Dear 2014 Application Reader,

Thank you so much for your time and efforts last year to read and score applications for the inaugural year of the Washington Fellowship (now called the Mandela Washington Fellowship).  We greatly appreciate your contribution to this exciting and high-level initiative!  We are once again seeking readers for this year's application cycle.  Readers this round will read and score applications from mid-November to mid-December.

This year we have an online application form for readers, where we will collect your information and resumes.  Please see the announcement below and click on the link if you wish to apply to be a reader again this year.  Please also forward this announcement and link widely to your colleagues and friends.  We are again expecting a large volume of applications, and the reader role is very important!  Many thanks in advance, and we hope you will consider being a reader again this year.

Best,
The Mandela Washington Fellowship Team

IREX Seeks Academic and Professional Experts

IREX is seeking qualified experts to read and score applications for the 2015 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.  Last year we received 50,000 applications for 500 slots, so your talents and expertise in scoring applications is greatly needed!

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), and 2014 was its inaugural year. President Obama launched YALI in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa. In the summer of 2015, the Mandela Washington Fellowship will once again bring 500 young leaders to the United States for academic coursework and leadership training and will create unique opportunities in Africa for Fellows to put new skills to practical use in leading organizations, communities, and countries.  Last year's Fellowship was a huge success, and we look forward to another great year!  For some success stories and to meet last year's Fellows, please visit our website.

Readers will be responsible for evaluating program applicants based on set guidelines for the Mandela Washington Fellowship. We are seeking experts to review applications from mid-November to December. Readers will read about 40 applications, and may receive an honorarium for their service (please note that US government employees are not eligible to receive an honorarium).

Ideal readers are academics and/or professionals with expertise in one of the program's three thematic areas (business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, or public management) or those who have a background or experience in Africa.

If you are interested in participating as a reader for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, please complete the form (linked below) by October 31, 2014.  You will be asked to upload your resume, and we will confirm with you via email whether you are selected to be a reader.  We thank you in advance!

Best,
The Mandela Washington Fellowship Team
