Chief V.C Aluko,
The Jewish New Year greeting is usually,"May you be inscribed (in the Book of Life) for a good year" and the custom of eating apple dipped in honey is in the spirit of "May the New Year be as sweet as honey" My best wishes for all of us.
We have every reason to be worried, taking into consideration Foremost Prophet, Primate Theophilus Oluwasaanu Olabayo, the Pastor, Founder, Evangelical Church and his either/or predictions, one of which is that "there may not be election next year". In any case, it's comforting to note that his other prediction about a spate of assassinations that he prophesised have not yet come to pass and January is almost here. His prophecy, from the moment he was speaking was that "Specifically, between now and January, the country will witness one of the worst eras of bloodshed in its history. And if at all there will be elections next year in Nigeria, the seat of the president is not vacant."
Well, the Ides of March (15th March) that inauspicious date for Caesar, has not yet come and gone, and the date with fate is whole month earlier, 14th February the most auspicious date for lovers, Valentine's Day.
Another worrying sign on the horizon is Nigeria-Cameroon relations which hopefully will not break down either as a result of cross-border reprisals as the Cameroon Air force bombs Boko Haram positions in their country and hopefully, that Boko Haram does not retaliate by committing any cross-border atrocities on defenceless Cameroonian civilians which could force Cameroon to pursue Boko Haram into Nigeria proper. The rise in tension with the latest news of the Cameroonian crackdown on Nigerian tax-evaders in Bakassi doesn't look too good - I can understand the Cameroonian reaction being ratcheted up especially now that there's such a drop in oil prices. It would seem that with the Boko Haram insurgency and Boko Haram encroachments into Cameroon, Nigeria needs Cameroon more than Cameroon needs Nigeria, just at this moment.
May the spirit of Pan- Africanism must prevail!
The least we can do is to pray for peace and tranquillity.
In Diaspora Sweden too, there is some political turmoil, albeit of a non-violent nature.
Pray for us all – here and there too.
Cornelius.

Inquiring minds want to know.We need to constantly interrogate the following time-table for that...next important issue (after all the ongoing nominations, candidate certifications, etc.) is the publication of the official Voters' Register on January 13, 2015.That is the REAL beginning of all elections....we shall see...And there you have it.Bolaji Aluko
