"Who says this election is NOT about religion; it is about religion" - Zubbie Ekwueme. In present day Nigeria, ethnicity and religion are Siamese twins often utilised by the political elites as weapons of mass deception against Nigerians. Before now, and regardless of ethnicity, the Nigerian Christians and Islam believers have always agreed with one another politically whenever they want to crack coconuts on the heads of the Nigerian masses who never survive to partake in the gorging of the nuts. If we go back to the December 1959 Federal elections which was to elect the government that was to usher Nigeria into independence in 1960, we will discover that political actions were perpetrated without religious considerations.
The NPC (Hausa/Fulani) under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmadu Bello and its ally in the Delta Area of the East won 148 seats out of 312 seats; the NCNC (Igbo) led by Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe and its ally, NEPU, in the North, won 89 seats; while the AG (Yoruba) led by Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo and its ally in the North, UMBC, won 75 seats. Since none of the political parties had absolute majority to form the government, at least, a coalition of two political parties was needed to form a government. The Action Group leader, Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, suggested a national government, of the three parties and their allies, led by Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe but added that he would never serve in a national government led by feudalists in a tacit reference to the NPC leaders. Evidently, the NCNC, AG and their allies had 164 seats as against 148 seats for the NPC in the Parliament. Therefore, there was no Parliamentary obstruction for Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe to lead a National government as Prime Minister of Nigeria. However, on Sunday, 20th December 1959, the NCNC announced a coalition government with the NPC against the opposition of its ally in the North, NEPU, which had suffered political persecution from the NPC controlled Northern Region government. In the coalition agreement, the NCNC agreed that no cabinet position would be offered to NEPU and the Prime Minister position was ceded to the NPC in the person of Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Religiously, Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe was a Christian just like Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, yet, the former not only agreed to form a coalition government with a Muslim led political party but conceded the office of the Prime Minister to a Muslim. Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe and the NCNC had calculated coldly that even if the NPC Hausa Party man was the Prime Minister, the Igbo NCNC Party would control all federal government's administration and its subsidiary companies by virtue of Igbo superior education and business acumen vis-á-vis Northerners. And so it was.
On May 25, 1962, the Western House of Assembly were in session to pass a vote of confidence on Alhaji Dauda Soroye Adegbenro as the new Premier to replace the deposed Samuel Ladoke Akintola when five supporters of Akintola caused pandemonium. After six months Emergency rule the Muslim Prime Minister, Balewa, re-instated the Christian Samuel Akintola as Premier of the West while the Federal Coalition Government of Christians and Muslims led NCNC/NPC jailed the Christian AG leader, Awolowo.

A close look at the execution of the coup d'état of 15 January 1966 will reveal the followings. When Major Timothy Onwuatuegwu broke into the bedroom of Brigadier Samuel Adesujo Ademulegun in the middle of the night in Kaduna, January 15, 1966, the wife of Brigadier Ademulegun, who was 8 months pregnant placed herself in front of her husband to shield him. Major Onwuatuegwu opened fire and bullets ripped opened the stomach of Mrs Ademulegun who was killed along with her husband. Major Timothy Onwuatuegwu was a Christian just like Brigadier Samuel Ademulegun and his wife but belonging to the same Christian faith did not have any influence on the assassinator and his victims. Similarly, the same Major Timothy Onwuatuegwu broke into the resident of Colonel Robert Sodeinde in Kaduna and shot him dead while wounding his wife fatally in spite of the fact that the assassinator and the assassinated were all Christians. At Ibadan, Captain Emmanuel Nwora Nwobosi and 2nd Lieutenant Bob Egbikor emptied the bullets in their machine gun on Samuel Ladoke Akintola who had surrendered with his hands up in the Premier's Lodge. The murdered Samuel Akintola was a Christian just like Captain Emmanuel Nwora Nwobosi and 2nd Lt. Bob Egbikor. In Lagos, Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna and Major Humphrey Chukwuka killed Lieutenant Colonels James Yakubu Pam and Arbogo Largema in spite of the fact that the Assassins and their victims were of the same Christian faith. Festus Okotie Eboh was gunned down by Major Christian Anuforo despite the fact that both belonged to the same Christian faith. Although Muslims like Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, and Colonel Kuru Mohammed were also killed in the coup of January 1966, by the Majors identified as Christians, the killings had nothing to do with religious differences.
Nigeria is a secular state which means that she is not governed according to scripture books, e.g. Bible or Quran. The place of worship for the Christians, named Church, contains six alphabets just like Mosque the place of worship for the Muslims. The Muslims' Holy book, Quran contains five alphabets just like Bible, the Christians' Holy book. These are not coincidental because Christianity and Islam originated from the same geographical region in the Middle-East, which is why the Christian Bible contains the same Deities as the Islamic Quran. For instances, the Biblical Moses is called Musa in the Quran; the Biblical Abraham is called Ibrahim in Quran; Quran's Ishaq is the same person as the Biblical Isaac; Biblical Joseph is called Yousef in Quran; Quran's Maryam is called Mary in the Bible; and the Biblical Jesus is called Isa in the Quran etc. When twelve out of nineteen States in the North enacted Sharia Laws in 2000, there were uproars especially among Christian Nigerians against it. Yet, there is not much that is uniquely Sharia that has no counterpart in the Christian Bible. Like the Quran, the Christian Bible abhors: Adultery (Exodus 20 : 14; Mathew 5: 27-27) and even sanctions it with death penalty (Leviticus 20: 10); Stealing (Exodus 20: 15); Drunkenness (Deuteronomy 21 : 20-21; Luke 21: 34); Homosexuality (Leviticus 18: 22) and even sanctions it with death penalty (Leviticus 20 : 13); Murder (Genesis 9:6; Exodus 20:13); Usury (Deuteronomy 23 :20; Psalm 15 :5); False Witness (Exodus 20: 16); Lying (Leviticus 19: 11; Psalm 31 :18) and Fasting (Exodus 34:28; Mathew 4: 2). The only difference between the Christian Bible and Islamic Quran is that the former was originally written in Hebrew while the latter was written in Arabic. Nigerians are neither Jews nor Arabs and why should we quarrel over adopted religions, Christianity and Islam?
After the expiration of immunity of Nigeria's two terms Governors in 2007, the EFCC and ICPC indicted 33 Governors, including the 12 Sharia governed States, of stealing billions of naira from their respective States. None of the Governors obeyed the injunctions in the Bible and Quran not to steal and not to tell lie. Recounting the charges brought against all the 33 Governors will be too lengthy for this forum but I will just highlight few cases. In July 2007, the enactor of Sharia law and former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, was charged in an Abuja High Court with stealing N15 Billion belonging to the State out of which N52 million was said to belong to Sokoto State's run School of Quran Studies. His lawyers argued, technically without success, that he could not be tried in Abuja for alleged offence committed in Sokoto. He was granted bail and the case has been in coma till date!! The former Governor of River State, Peter Odili, obtained a permanent Court injunction forbidding ICPC, EFCC or any other Federal law enforcing Agencies from investigating the financial accounts of the River State under his tenure as Governor. The Governor of Abia State from May 29, 1999 to 29 May 2007, Orji Uzor Kalu, was on July 27, 2007, arraigned by the EFCC before an Abuja High Court on a 107-count charge of money laundering, official corruption and criminal diversion of public funds in excess of N 65 billion. The condition of bail set for him was very stiff but he was bailed out by Muslims Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida. Thereafter, the case remains in coma. On July 27, 2007, Alhaji Saminu Turaki, the former Governor of Jigawa State was docked by the EFCC on a 32-count charge of stealing N36 billion from the treasury of Jigawa State. The presiding Judge, Justice Binta Murtala Nyako gave a stiff bail condition which Turaki could not meet and he was remanded in prison custody. However, the Sun on line of Saturday August 4, 2007, informed the general public that an Igbo Monarch, Eze Onuigbo from Abia State, arrived at Abuja Federal High Court in a metallic blue Peugeot 406, with registration number, ABIA AB 1 L01, to sign Turaki's bail conditions. It is noteworthy that Saminu Turaki is a good friend of Orji Uzor Kalu who is also from Aba. Turaki's case remains frozen till date. Furthermore, the former Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abdulahi Adamu and an Evangelist, Prince Nicholas Chukwujekwu Ukachukwu, an indigene of Osumenyi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, were charged to Court by the EFCC for having looted Nasarawa State of the sum of N 15 billion during the tenure of Adamu as Governor of the State between May 29, 1999 and 29 May 2007. As usual the culprits were granted bail while the case remains frozen. The lesson from the accounts rendered above is that, across the ethnic borders and religious differences, looters of national treasury in Nigeria are friends but only use religion or ethnicity as weapons to deceive and divert the attention of the masses from their robberies.
Zubbie Ekwueme has mischievously attributed polygamy to Islam and monogamy to Christianity. But polygamy existed in Nigeria long before the intrusion of Christianity and Islam into the country and up till date it is practised all over Nigeria irrespective of religious and ethnic leanings. While polygamy is practised in Nigeria is beyond the scope of this writing, but, I consider it necessary to debunk Zubbie Ekwueme's attribution of monogamous practice to Christianity. The practice of polygamy in the Western world is latent and is covered with serial monogamy which some sociologists call chewing gum love ( when a chewing gum no longer tastes good one spits it out to take a fresh one). During the Tudor dynasty in England, King Henry VIII severed relations with the Roman Catholic Church because he was refused divorce from Queen Catherine of Aragon. Before the marriage was finally dissolved by the new Church of England, headed by King Henry himself, he infected Queen Catharine with syphilis which resulted in their only daughter, Princess Mary, being born blind. Henry the VIII married six times with different women and supported himself with chains of concubines around the corners of England.
In monogamists' Europe and America, there are established and recognised sex industries and markets. In reality, the woman is a sexual-lord (as in land-lady) and the man is a sexual-tenant. However, the monogamous Western world, regards out-letting of females' sexual organ to men in exchange for money as work, therefore, the sexual-lords are called Sex Workers otherwise known as Prostitutes.
Who are the *PROSTITUTES* in the Christian *MONOGAMOUS* western world serving? In Victorian England, there occurred six bestial murders of prostitutes at London East End between August 6 and November 9, 1888, in the well-known "JACK THE RIPPER MURDERER." Among the first suspects at that time was a 79 year old Prime Minister of England, William Gladstone, who was popularly known for his unlimited appetite for prostitutes. Later in those mysterious murders, however, the crown prince to the throne of England and the grandson of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert Victor, was suspected of being behind the murders. Already at the age of 16 Prince Albert Victor was infected with syphilis. A very interesting thing to observe in the serial murders was that immediately after the sixth murder that occurred on 9 November 1888, Queen Victoria sent Albert on a long voyage abroad and murders by "Jack the Ripper" ceased. When Prince Albert returned to England after his voyage abroad, he was remanded in mental hospital where he died in 1892. Till date, it remains to be resolved who *Jack the Rippers* was.
Also in Elizabethan England, the government of Harold Macmillan was forced to resign in 1964 after the Christian monogamists, the Defence Minister, John Profumo, and Lord Astor were involved in extra marital and perverse sexual scandals. In New York, the American billionaire, Henry Mudd kept six wives simultaneously in six different apartments for the period of 20 years. He attended to each wife in a specific and constant day of the week except Sundays. Mr Mudd was 57 year old when he divorced his second wife. He had four children from both marriages and nine grand children. When Henry Mudd died in 1992 at the age of 77, he recorded in his will the amount of heritage to each wife in order of his weekly attendance to them thus: Mrs Monday - Loraine, Mrs Tuesday - Betty Sue Olend, Mrs Wednesday - Paula Palmer, Mrs Thursday - Eileen Cavanaugh, Mrs Friday - Angie Dubel and Mrs Saturday - Vanessa Rossok.
I have not mentioned that Christian, monogamous, husband of Hilary and former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, whose extra marital sexual escapades with the young Monica Lewinsky led to impeachment process against Bill Clinton some years ago. Less I forget, just last year, the French President, Francois Hollande was caught while oscillating sexually between two women. Francois Hollande was married with Ségolène Royal for 30 years and they had four children together before they divorced in 2007. Immediately after divorce, Francois Hollande began to cohabitate (trial marriage or taste before marriage) with a 48 year journalist, Valerie Trierweiler, who the entire French people recognise as the *First Lady.* While Francois Hollande, a 60 year old man was still tasting Valerie Trierweiler before marriage in the Presidential Palace, he was caught taking bites at the apple of a 41 year old actress, Julie Gayet. Francois Hollande is a Christian and a Catholic but not a monogamist. With all these references, Zubbie Ekwueme is untruthful when he associated Christianity to monogamy and Islam to polygamy.
Zubbie Ekwueme has chosen his so called *women of valor* which he attributed to their Christian Faith or upbringing. If our point of departure in judging those women is their services to the nation, we will discover that, except Oby Ezekwesili, all the women mentioned by Ekwueme are as bad as all the men in the government of Jonathan. Concluding, the forthcoming election is not about religion but about accountability of what Jonathan has done with the trillions of Naira Nigeria has earned in the past six years he has been on the saddle as the President. While I agree with the defender of Jonathan that Budget is a statement of intention that needs not be implemented, they should also know that when the intention is not implemented, the appropriated funds for the intention should remain in the treasury.

These are the accomplished women from Christian Nigeria. All have excelled in their chosen professionI came from a polygamous family myself. So I should know. There is no peace in any polygamous home. There are always attitudinal jealousy, gossip and even attacks. The practice of polygamy should be allowed to die, because it sees women as chattel, to be married off many to one man. It is an anti-women practice that denigrates women setting them up for just as mere reproduction machines. It creates and feeds the man-is-superior hegemonic order, that is unsustainable. Honor killing, forced marriage, whipping and even beheading is a steady diet Muslim women endure. In an essentially male society of Islamic societies it is a horror to be caught with another man not your brother. A man is delegated to chaperon a grown woman. Who is minding the ban then. Boko Haram will steal 300 Christian girls and sell them away. If that is not looking down on women, I don't know what is.
Is Dr Femi Adebayo a Muslim. He talks like one. By the way you know that 50% of the Yoruba are Muslims. Before long Yoruba land will become a majority Islamic state. Has Dr Adebayo ever wanted to know why the SESS has the preponderance of the of women occupying high office in Nigeria. That may not be his concern. But it is ours. We are not the same as Muslims. The Northern or Western Muslims of Nigeria lack the DNA for inclusiveness? We are not one with Muslims.
The SESS region has its own share of flaming liberal, cultural revanchists, who have bought into this conundrum of African religion. Indigenous religions are usually Ogonmuo or Ifa as the case may be. These cultural revanchists have helped the post war federal Military government in its efforts to de-Christianize the SESS. You see, after the war, when Biafra lay dead and battered, the victorious military government had a decree that banned all Christian owned and run schools. They victorious military government hoped to produced unbelievers like our liberals. They succeeded. These liberals are not helping us, by looking down at our Judeo-Christian ethics, principles and worldview. Some of them even support polygamyThere are two kinds of Nigeria, not one.There is the Christian Nigeria and the Muslim Nigeria. More than one half of Nigeria is Muslims (60%) and the other half is Christians (55%) plus a sprinkling of believers in the indigenous African religions.The SESS is the region is the Christian region of Nigeria. It is abundantly gifted with the OIL wealth, that makes Nigeria get noticed. Before the Biafran war, it boasted of 98% Christian population. Today, the more than 55 million people that occupy this region, are being picked off one by one, by Islamic autocrats, for coerced conversion to Islam. Consequently, they are held a captive Christian region much like the Coptic Christians of Egypt todayAfter they were defeated in the Biafran war, they were dragged, kicking and screaming into OIC, an organization that carters for only Islamic nations, meaning a forced conversion of whole 55 million people. We not Muslims, but Christians that that had been defeated and our OIL stolen, leaving a once vibrant Eastern Nigeria the least developed in all Nigeria. They own the OIL, but were grudgingly allowed a 13% derivative. Everybody there are scratching their heads.They own the OIL that built Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Kaduna and all Nigeria, with the exception of the East, who own the OIL.This is another topic for another day...
