USA Africa Dialogue Series - The End of an Era

Five years ago Professor Femi Mimiko, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University came with a laudable slogan of a 21st Century University properly called.
Adekunle Ajasin University is an Ondo State University named after the first civilian governor of the State.
Five years ago Akungba-Akoko the location of the University was hardly known but today the obscured village has become a university town like Harvard or Yale due to the work and accomplishments of Professor Femi Mimiko.
The infrastructure in the University is unprecedented. For instance, the Senate building is the best in the country, the gym complex building is the biggest and the most modern in the country, the Library and several other lecture hall buildings including Nelson Mandela Conference Hall, the Health Centre, University Guest House and the road networks among others have added aesthetic values to the concept of a 21st century University properly called of Professor Femi Mimiko.
Besides these infrastructural edifices on campus, the products of the institution have made the university community proud. For instance, our student Mr. Opeyemi Longe became the best overall student at the Nigerian law school last year.
The practice of not awarding honorary doctorates to money bags in the society became a policy of the institution under the leadership of Professor Mimiko. Professor Toyin Falola became one of the very few notable Nigerians ever given a honorary doctorate of the University.
As Professor Mimiko left the stage when the ovation was loudest on January 4, 2015, the hope is that there is a continuity of his legacy.
We congratulate Professor Mimiko for his great vision, mission and achievements at Adekunle University. a 21st Century University properly called.
