The Hispanics, Asians, Jews all have college-bound programs for their youths. Currently there is the hailed "Asian Model," associated with excellent academic outcomes. As a demographic group, African youths perform at the high end with their Asian and White peers. However, the research needs to be consolidated. Another question: Would the excellence be the norm? Without supportive services, it is difficult to predict as the population grows.
Some African youths miss the opportunity to actualize their fullest potentials because they have no informed guidance, including filling out college applications and financial aid forms. The missed opportunities include admission into competitive schools or their preference. The finding is based on surveys of 125 graduating seniors in 2014. Patronage of the First Martin Luther King Builder and Patron Appreciation Dinner-Gala, the historic first for the African community, will benefit the College Bound Program. The Honorees are prototypes! Casa de Maryland, a force for immigration reform with the White House and services for immigrants, have influenced benefits for the community. Meet the rest of the talents and watch the video, perhaps again, Ebola We Shall Overcome by Artist With One Voice.

January 19, 2015. 9:am 11:30 am | | The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) uses assets within the community as the primary building blocks of sustainable community development. By strengthening and building on the skills and expertise of residents, the resourcefulness of associations or groups, and the supportive functions of local institutions and governments, ABCD draws upon available community strengths to build stronger, dynamic and empowered community that addresses the needs of constituents. Therefore, a critical part of building a healthy and functional community is understanding the existing and potential strengths of individuals and organized entities. The purpose is to match needs with resources for community empowerment. Stakeholders at the Breakfast Roundtable on Community Asset Inventory will conduct assessments in order facilitate: 1) Community education on the inter-connectedness of development, which brings together stakeholders working on similar or complementary causes to achieve effective and efficient results. 2) Ways to recognize talents and abilities, and inspire individuals and groups, including youths, to contribute toward civic and community development. 3) The shifting from dependency on outside sources to an empowered, self-reliant, self-representing constituency. | | Martin Luther King Day of Community Service: Monday January 19, 2015 from 12 noon to 5:00pm with Global Humble Ladies and Patrons Each year, residents across the country provide the answers to Martin Luther King's question by serving.
