USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Fw: Prof Darah's Address

PS.

We must take what he says , seriously
Does anyone have the protocols from the National Conference? Yes, we know that the dissolution of Nigeria was not on the agenda  but it's interesting to note  Prof Darah sounding off on "federal imperial control" like a true Delta secessionist

Prof. GG Darah on Corruption & Primitive Captalism

Baba Omojola Integrated Marxism with Ifa Religion GG Darah ( GG Darah talks about "federal imperial control" !)

When you talked of the demise of an erstwhile Arnold Kettle disciple I thought positively of him with someone like The Freedom Centre's David Horowitz in mind, DH who made the journey from Left to Right.

There's also the possibility that in later years for a few breadcrumbs more, some of the so called "radicals" are capable of becoming praise-singing sycophants, useless uncle toms or toothless infidels but it's an impressive catalogue of accomplishments that Prof G.G Darah rolls out on behalf of the Goodluck Jonathan Administration and one wonders what other good things have been happening in Nigeria during President Goodluck's reign or is that the sum total of macadamized road mileage etc?  I don't see so much harm in Prof Darah being a little selfish on behalf of himself and his Urobo people or in asking the rival presidential candidates, " What are you going to do for us?" -  but in my view he spoils it all when he resorts to what sounds like ethnic and religious bigotry (potently, dangerous  inflammatory stuff)  saying that

"Only the PDP can achieve the above for the Uhrobo people. The other parties have no programme of agenda for the development and liberation of Urhobo people. (Isn't the development of the whole nation in the APC Manifesto?) The Urhobo people will never be enslaved by religious fanatics; we will never surrender our sovereignty to politicians who are enemies of the Niger Delta. (Is that how he sees the APC? Religious fanatics who want to enslave the Delta people? ) We shall not deliver our destiny to politicians who want to colonise Niger Delta and control its oil wealth. We will vote for freedom and democracy; we will vote for resource control, we will vote for PDP all the way! "

What's all this, is that what they say when they go canvassing, up North? I was wondering about Darah's last paragraph until in further checking up GG Darah I eventually came upon his real agenda:

Darah makes case for Republic of Southern Nigeria

Ethnic politics indeed!   Let's hope that the oil doesn't all dry up …

Ethnic politics, the bane and hallmark of Nigeria's "demoncrazy". Going through this address, I could have been shocked to hear Prof. G.G. Darrah, a former champion of socialism, my former Professor of Oral Literature. Besides, he it was that introduced some of us to Marxism and Socialist Criticism some thirty-six years ago, at the University of Ife (now, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife), a highly respected and accomplished scholar; a profound critic of dysfunctional social system. A man of integrity! It is like committing "an ideological suicide" for Prof Darrah to be engaged in shameless psycophancy and Executive hustling,... perhaps for a ministerial appointment. My Professor, sir, where is the integrity you taught us so well and so passionately in those great Ife years? It is hurting to find that you have been predictably consistent since you offered to serve under the "Good Boy- Governor Ibori", to the degree that you now stand the TRUTH on its head.

It is also tragic that the sitting President is guilty of fanning the ember of national disintegration, by encouraging politics of ethnicity.
