A Resolution Regarding the 2015 General Elections in Nigeria

Whereas, Organizing For Oha (O.F.O.) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization of conscious, Africa-centered and Pan-African professionals and activists based outside Nigeria; and

Whereas, the motto of Organizing For Oha is "Group Self-Determination and Individual Self Actualization;" and

Whereas, Organizing For Oha is keenly aware of and has followed the permutations in the upcoming general elections in Nigeria scheduled for February 14th and 28th 2015; and

Whereas, each political party in Nigeria that has decided to present a presidential candidate has conducted its primaries for nominations and has nominated its candidate; and

Whereas, the United Progressive Party (UPP) with the Tiger head as its symbol, and "Love and Unity" as its motto, has nominated a Nigerian patriot of Igbo heritage, namely Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie, as its presidential candidate; and

Whereas, Organizing For Oha has reviewed and analyzed the stated programs and manifestos of the major parties, including those of the UPP; and

Whereas, Organizing For Oha finds Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie and the UPP to be the authentic, committed progressives vying for votes in the 2015 elections in Nigeria; and

Whereas, Organizing For Oha has noticed the moral authority with which Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie and the UPP have resisted entreaties to join those who are calling for the postponement of the elections and have instead expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the elections as scheduled; and

Whereas, Organizing For Oha feels a sense of obligation to NdiIgbo and to Nigerians at large to help guide the voters about how to exercise their most important right and duty of citizenship, which is the right to vote to  choose our leaders;

Let it therefore be known to all compatriots that Organizing For Oha has resolved as follows:

  1. All eligible and registered voters in Nigeria, including NdiIgbo, cannot afford to abstain from voting and must therefore brave the existing insecurities to cast their votes wherever they are registered to vote;

  2. NdiIgbo in particular must in 2015 choose to take their own destiny in their hands and register a vote that demonstrates their confidence in Nigeria and in themselves at the same time, no matter the outcome or consequences;

  3. A careful and responsible choice to register the resolve of NdiIgbo to be masters of their own destiny in 2015 would be to cast a resounding and overwhelming vote for Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie and Barrister Bello Umar of the UPP for president and vice president respectively, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015;

  4. Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie, who has worked simultaneously for the unity and strength of the Nigerian federation and at the same time for the reckoning of NdiIgbo at all levels of political, social and economic activity in Nigeria, deserves the support of our people at this critical juncture in our nation's history;

  5. In a clear case where there is little or no difference between the composition, character, and programs of the ruling PDP and the largest opposition APC, Organizing For Oha believes that Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie and the UPP represent the true, authentic progressive alternatives to the current status quo and therefore should be supported;

  6. Organizing For Oha will do all in its power, within the confines of the law to support Chief (Dr.) Chekwas Okorie and the UPP, and hereby encourages all compatriots, at home and abroad, to do so;

  7. We make this decision conscious of OFO's unique spiritual and historic place in the self-determination of our people.

    Signed:
