I admire Patience Jonathan, she is real. I love the way she stands by her man, and quite honestly I enjoy the raw poetry of her call and response type of campaign rhetoric. Some of it is misguided like the other time she was channeling Buhari in calling on violence on her enemies, but she connects with ordinary people who see themselves in her. I know, the pretend intellectuals of Nigeria's faux suburbs are choking on their faux red wine, who cares?
I also give props to Goodluck for treating his partner right. Men like Obasanjo could use lessons here. Obasanjo is probably the worst abuser of women that has ever been cursed to rule Nigeria; he once chased one of his numerous wives down the street with a knife. The woman did not wait to see what would happen, she ran the race of her life. Obasanjo administered beatings to his wives, but you don't hear a whole lot of people doing anything but taking selfies with him. Here, read about how Obasanjo treated his wives: http://xokigbo.com/2012/02/18/mrs-oluremi-obasanjo-life-with-an-animal/
So much for selective outrage.
Is Patience crude? Is she poorly educated? Should she curtail the kinds of abusive rants that remind us of Buhari's violent outbursts that killed thousands a while back? Yes, yes, yes. But she is a mirror of us. Many of us cringe and wail because we see our failings and the worst of our society in her. Good for Patience! Hold that mirror up to our unctuous noses. You are us. Na you, biko. Anybody wen nor like your style, mek e go hug transformer. Nothing go happen sha, the transformers don't work. Blame Obasanjo and all the buffoon-leaders before him. I have said my own. Sai Patience!
