Subject: From the Storymoja tribute to the late Grace Ogot
"Grace Ogot has always been there. Like Barbara Kimenye, Margaret Ogola, Charity Waciuma, and Muthoni Likimani, she is part of a Kenyan writerly vernacular, a name foundational to Kenyan writing. A name we who call ourselves feminists invoke to say:women were writing at the beginning. Because she is so foundational, it is difficult to imagine a world without her. We never imagine that our foundations might leave. And, when they do, we try to gather fragments from the rubble to say something. Anything. Grief muffles eloquence."
