This is well-crafted and argued, as usual. The excessively high cost of governance, through men and materials, must be whittled down considerably; not just as an initial populist measure but on a sustainable basis for it to be meaningful and positively impact on our economy. The president may not expect any form of co-operation from the over-paid and over-pampered members of the national assembly on this issue, but he must remain resolute.
However, I cannot make myself to agree with you on your perception and comments on the sack of the former IG Abba. When I took time to read the circumstances that triggered that action,from from a more balanced, perhaps objectively suave, reporting in The Guardian, unlike the more politically sensational reporting of the same story in the The Punch, I came to the conclusion that no matter the nature of a 'lame-duck 'President, he still remains President until the last day of his tenure. That implies that he has the right to deal with such issues, especially if an IG appointed by him fails to distinguish between overt loyalty and subtle/covert loyalty; as you would not have two pilots handling the steering wheel of a plane at the same time. Alh Coomasie's interpretation as an ethnic agendum against northern aristocrats-cum-warlords is really unfortunate, if not a shame, at a time we should all strive for and ensure closer cohesiveness for our country to aid progress.
