Conference in Honour of Falola
Toyin Falola scholarship shines at day today on September 25, 2015. Starting at 9am, the VC, Professor Hayward Babale Mafuyai, declared the Conference open, followed by speeches by Professor Tor Iorapuu, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Professor Sati Fwatshak, the convener.
The Keynote followed by Professor Okpeh O. Okpeh. He developed the theme on the historiography of Central Nigeria. He identified the core aspects: resistance to alien culture and civilization; nationalism; and struggles for development. He noted the creation of new mythologies. In his conclusion, he wants scholars to pay attention to economic history, apply theories, collect more data and creates relevance for their scholarship.
Ten panels followed, on many themes covering economic transformation, religion, politics, security, women, infrastructure, language and communication, education and health, cultures and conflicts.
Delegates came from the United States, and various universities in Nigeria: University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, IBB University, the Federal University, Lafia, the Federal University, Gombe, Benue State University, Kogi State University, University of Jos, University of Port Harcourt, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nasarrawa State University, Nigeria Police Academy, Kaduna State University, University of Abuja, Federal University Loyola, Plateau State University.
Professor Falola thanked the scholars, the convener, and the University of Jos for organizing the conference in his honour
