Why Buhari wants Pat Utomi as Minister

If ever Pat Utomi makes it as a minister in President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet, there are some basic philosophy in public of which the Prof. has denounced over the years that will be put to test.
Contrary to what many political jobbers jostling to scuttle his nomination, Prof. Utomi enjoys the confidence of President Buhari for his frugal manner and consistent advocacy that the cost of running government should be trimmed. In this resp...ect, he has the ears of President Buhari.
Prof. Utomi is one Minister who will not fly first class on any official engagement outside Nigeria and for those that will accompany him it will not be shopping bonanza.
In fact over the years Prof. Utomi has been so critical of the huge profit foreign airlines make on their Nigerian route because of the penchant of government ministers to fly first class on each official assignment abroad.
President Buhari is at home with Pat Utomi's ideas and we may witness a regime where government Ministers are barred from flying first class and the prodigality that follows such trips. In many of his interviews and public speeches, Prof. Utomi has argued that the Nigerian state cannot survive with a system which the ruling class live in lavish comfort at the expense of the workers and the masses.
Prof. Utomi will not be one of those " Noise Makers" who attend official functions with retinue of aides and security personnel to demonstrate power and influence.
The Political economist and former presidential candidate of Social Democratic Mega Party, has also been a strong advocate of slashing the cost of running political offices in the country.
He remains a strong advocate for curbing the wastefulness of the elites and evolving a system government that ensures fair distribution of national wealth to curb poverty, reduce inequality and save Nigeria from what he calls, " The Coming Anarchy".
Prof Utomi has called the incoming administration to set a new agenda for labour in which rewards productivity.
According to him, "We need a system of collective bargaining which entails appropriate wealth distribution for all. There should be an opportunity for workers both in the private and public sectors to recognise that the economy is a partnership that can create greater wealth when fairly distributed. This is the fastest way to guarantee economic growth. Labour must get its fair due because it is the peoples sweat that create wealth."
His role as a member of the Think Tank that drew the Economic Blue print for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
For President Buhari, Prof. Utomi represents the face and soul of change far beyond the crowd of political actors swarming around President Buhari..
