The Journal of Africana Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (JAEED) will provide a global intellectual platform for the publication and dissemination of high-quality, peer-reviewed articles that focus primary attention on Africana entrepreneurship and business development processes in African nations and the African Diaspora in North America (the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other N.A. countries), as well as African-descended people in the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Asia. While proceeding from the primary assumption that the creation of business enterprises, as well as the entrepreneurial ethos that surrounds it, are both the causes and consequences of individual and collective efforts aimed at the attainment of economic independence and economic emancipation, The Journal of Africana Entrepreneurship and Economic Development welcomes the submission of cutting-edge research that examines theoretical and empirical issues implicit in the historical development of entrepreneurship or its' contemporary manifestations within the context of the 21st century knowledge economy.
We are particularly interested in theoretical and empirical essays that examine the impacts of cultural, economic, political, geographical, spatial, environmental, psychological, and physical factors on the development of business enterprises; new forms of entrepreneurship, such as eco-entrepreneurship and sustainability entrepreneurship; the role of the state in economic development processes; sustainable development initiatives; as well as articles that subtly probe the interpenetration of a host of local, national, and international variables of analysis and their attendant impacts, on the success or failure of business enterprises.
We invite submissions from scholars in an interdisciplinary framework, such as the disciplines of Africana/Black Studies, History, Political Science, Geography, Business and Marketing, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Philosophy, Medicine, and Philanthropy. Guest Editors will be used occasionally to develop volume editions that are tightly woven around particular entrepreneurial themes and issues.
JAEED is also interested in applied scholarship that provides interesting case studies of successful entrepreneurs in Africa and the African Diaspora; elucidation of unique, indigenous-based models of entrepreneurship that can be replicated in other regions of the world; as well as the publication of creative entrepreneurial training modules and curriculums that can have transformative effects on the developing economies of the Global South. It is our expectation that the JAEED will be a major conduit and actor in the provision of important and timely information on entrepreneurship, economic development, and sustainable development processes in a global framework.
JAEED will also serve as the springboard for the subsequent organization of the following: 1). a series of Global Economic Development Summits that will be organized by the Center for Global Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in the future; and, 2). a series on African American business, entrepreneurship and the impact of White Corporate America on black business by the University of Texas at Austin Center of Black Business History, Entrepreneurship and Technology. It is our hope that these efforts will help to accelerate economic growth and development in the African Diaspora Global Community.
JAEED will also publish reviews of books that focus on entrepreneurship, economic development, and sustainable development in Africa and the African Diaspora. Book reviews should be between 4,000-8,000 words, double-spaced.
STYLE
We invite contributions of manuscripts that are 25-40 pages in length, double-spaced, including the endnotes and tables/charts. We are utilizing the University of Chicago style manual for all submissions to this journal. Contributors should send all manuscripts for publication consideration electronically to the Editors of the Journal, Dr. Bessie House-Soremekun at beshouse@iupui.edu<mailto:beshouse@iupui.edu> and Dr. Juliet E.K. Walker at Jekwalker@austin.utexas.edu<mailto:Jekwalker@austin.utexas.edu>. Authors of the manuscript should put their names/affiliations only on the cover page of the manuscript. Each article should include an abstract of about 150 words which synopsizes the main arguments put forward in the article and the importance of the work. Authors are also responsible for providing figures and charts that meet the guidelines of the University of Chicago Style manual. Authors must also secure any permissions needed to use photographs, tables, charts, figures, etc. in their work.
Articles submitted to JAEED will undergo an independent peer review process and upon acceptance, any final changes or revisions must be made by the author of the paper within the time period specified by the editors. Articles should be submitted in English.
JAEED will be published twice each year.
