In my almost five years so far as VC, FUO has lost two academic staff (one during childbirth, the other (a male) in an okada accident away from campus), one administrative male staff to illness, and three male students - one to illness at home during a holiday period, one (along with wife and child) to smoke inhalation poisoning in their home (discovered three days later), and the third by drowning at night while swimming unattended in a water body at Yenagoa Peace Park during a Church retreat from which group he inscrutably retreated for a short unfortunate period.
As VC, one unanticipated duty is dealing with the death of staff and students and their families. There is not only the sadness of loss, but concern about university culpability, which luckily was not the case in any of these six fatalities.

VC Aluko:It is your call and not mine. You are the VC of a university in the creeks. If you say your university in the creeks does not need canoes, who am I to challenge that. Ezeana Achusim:I will drum it into your head: Otuoke does not need canoes, and does not have bad roads, but the roads could be much better than they currently are. GEJ did a lot for Otuoke....crony capitalism did not let it show fully...I will not let you lie....as your ilk is wont to, under the guise of evil comicality.Bolaji AlukoOn Mon, Nov 30, 2015 at 3:51 PM, Philip Achusim <pachusim@yahoo.com> wrote:VC Aluko:So, Otuoke has bad roads and no canoes. GEJ could not even do a thing for Otuoke. What a place. Creeks. Bad roads. No canoes. GEJ's home town. Then think of Kano and what Sanusi and GEJ did for the north and Kano. And Otuoke is the last place Buhari wants to hear about, let alone build roads or repair bad roads or provide canoes. When I think of bad roads in Otuoke, I think of Lagos roads after a heavy rainfall.
