Fulbright Opportunities in the Western HemisphereThe 2017-2018 Core Fulbright U.S Scholar Program competition is now open and accepting applications for awards in the Western Hemisphere! Our organization, the Institute of International Education's Council for International Exchange of Scholars, administers the Fulbright Scholar Program on behalf of the United States Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The complete listing of opportunities available in the region can be found in our catalog of awards. New and exciting opportunities include: Canada: Research Chairs in First Nations Studies This new award allows scholars to engage in research and lecture at the University of Alberta or Vancouver Island University in a variety of specializations including law, environmental change, aboriginal residents, education, and engagement. Chile: Science and Technology Scholars from all appropriate disciplines can teach and research at any accredited university or research institution in Chile for three to four months. Spanish proficiency is not required. Preferred disciplines include chemistry, engineering, environmental sciences, geology, and public/global health, among others. The Interuniversity Institute for Research and Development (INURED) has requested a Fulbright scholar for a follow-up national assessment of the state of higher education following the 2010 earthquake. The study will examine the extent to which higher education institutions in Haiti are engaging in cross-border partnerships to improve their programming, capacity building and transformation of Haitian society as part of the rebuilding process. Open to applicants who have completed their Ph.D. in the last five years, this opportunity allows scholars to conduct postdoctoral activities in support of his/her professional development while advancing the scholarly mission of the host institution. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and the deadline for complete applications is August 1, 2016.
