One needs to be careful using the MDGs to inform public policy in Nigeria (or any other African country). As you already know, the MDGs are "generic" policy objectives developed by the UN and hence, may not necessarily reflect the types of development issues/concerns that Nigeria needs to address. It has already been argued by many economists and development experts that over-reliance on the MDGs and other externally designed policies can harm grassroots efforts to deal with poverty and improve human development. Hence, I would suggest that rather than look at the MDGs, you concentrate on actual policies promulgated by previous Nigerian Governments and how they have either contributed or failed to contribute to poverty alleviation and human development in the country. Through such an approach, the volume that you edit will be able to contribute positively the debate on how to advance genuine and inclusive economic growth and development in Nigeria.

Good luck.
