Boko Haram attack : 30 Terrorists Killed, 24 Soldiers Wounded in Borno

By Kingsley Omonobi

Following Monday's attack on troops of the 113 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Borno, which were successfully repelled, military sources have told Vanguard that over 30 Boko Haram terrorists were killed while scores escaped with gunshot injuries.

The terrorists' who were said to have numbered almost a hundred, reportedly started the attack by launching IEDS on positions of the troops and followed with shooting from different angles all in a bid to confuse the troops but the soldiers aware of the tactic, stood their ground and fought back gallantly.

Consequently, the military confirmed that 2 officers and 22 soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries from gunshots as well as IEDS attacks. No life was lost.

In a statement last night, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman said, "Please recall that Boko Haram terrorists attacked our troops' location at Kareto, northern Borno State Monday morning.

"The troops successfully repelled the attack and killed quite a number of the terrorists.

"The situation has since been brought under control and reinforcement sent.

"So far our troops had 2 officers and 22 soldiers wounded in action.

"All of them have been evacuated to Military Hospital Maiduguri where they are receiving treatment.

Usman attributed the successful defeat of the terrorists who attempted an incursion into 113 Battalion at Kareto Northern Borno State to timely response of the troops involved and provision of air cover by the Nigerian Airforce.

While noting that the area is now cool and calm the Army Spokesman added that more reinforcement have been deployed to the Border community.

There is no truth in the false story of Boko inflicting heavy casualties on Nigerian troops. There was an attempt by the remnants of Boko, thoroughly dislodged from Nigerian territory, to attack a military barrack and it was repulsed with heavy casualties on Boko. That the pitiable Wailers have now become Boko Fans Club members and forging fake stories and praying and fasting for Boko triumph does not in any way amount to success in their prayers. Both the wailers and Boko have been washed down to our forgettable chapters of the country's dark chapter we exited from last year.

Kudos to our troops of the recce and signals detachments. Kudos to their bravery in knowing to call in air power to salvage their comrades in arms and save their lives from "those who immerse" (the shock troops of demonic evil from the satanic verses). Maybe professional soldiering can come back in Nigeria after-all.

But what do we have to say about these politicians who are changing the rules to keep being corrupt and laundering money? What do we do with these parasite politicians and their business co-treasonous snakes, who are padding budgets and raising oil prices? Who instead of going through the appropriate channels, will take Nigerian money and recycle in the bureau de change (a market of illusion)?
Why is there still a "bureau de change," e vehicle for economic desolation, in our monetary economy?

Those who have ears ...

I thought we bested Boko Haram.  How in the world did they get up to fight again?

Boko Haram insurgents have inflicted heavy casualties on troops of the Nigerian army, BBC is reporting.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the base of the soldiers in Kareto village in Borno state in large numbers.
Sani Usman, spokesman of the army, had earlier confirmed the attack, but refused to go into details.
The BBC quoted a soldier as saying the militants came with "heavy weapons which we didn't have".
A resident of Kareto said troops managed to regain control of the village with the support of fighter jets.
"Several of the militants were killed in the fighting which lasted for several hours," the resident was quoted as saying.
Despite the claim of the government to have brought the sect under control, Boko Haram has continued to carry out different attacks.
