Dear Colleagues,
I reproduce below (with permission) the text of the appeal I refer to, which is made on behalf of Professor Eldred Jones by the Fourah Bay College-USA Google Group, an online forum for FBC alumni in the USA. The author of the appeal, Mrs Denise Macfoy, is an FBC Alumna of my acquaintance. The appeal has been made directly to members of that FBC-USA forum, but obviously support from others including USA Africa Dialogues subscribers will be very much appreciated:

Subject: Urgent Help Needed for Former FBC Principal, after a Lifetime of Dedication to Education in Sierra Leone
Reply-To: fbcusa@googlegroups.com
Dear Fellow FBC Alumni,
As some of you may have heard, one of the icons in Sierra Leonean academia, Professor Eldred Durosimi Jones, recently suffered two life-altering losses. Just a few months after his beloved wife passed away, a fire burned down most of his house. A lifetime of academic work, his literature, publications and all his Braille collections were lost in the fire. Professor Jones who is 91, and completely blind, now finds himself without his devoted care-giver and the familiar surroundings of him home - you can imagine how his life has been affected! The cost of rebuilding his home stands at 250 MILLION Leones.
This is an appeal for those of us who benefitted from the excellent standards he imparted during his tenure as Professor and Principal of Fourah Bay College, and from his invaluable contributions to our education, to reach back and assist in his time of distress. An account has been opened by trusted family members in Freetown to help with the rebuilding of his home. I will ensure that all donations are listed and circulated to the group, along with the total collected. Please send an email to Denise.macfoy@icloud.com with the details of your donation, so that I can keep accurate records of donors and amounts.
The Freetown account details are the following:
Union Trust bank A/c no: 210-0388601-01
IBAN number: 004001210038860142
A/c name Nemata & Valerie Disaster Relief Fund. Please use FBC USA as a reference on the transfer.
Please feel free to contact me at the above email address or at (202) 569-9356 if you have any questions
If you are able to contribute, a million thanks, and may God richly bless you.
Denise Macfoy (Nee Conton)
END
