The 4th Annual Africa Conference at Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN, convened by Prof. Adebayo Oyebade & Prof. Gashawbeza Bekele, was held March 31-April 1. Each year, the conference offers scholars, graduate students, and other participants a platform to engage in productive dialogue on important issues pertinent to Africa and the African Diaspora. The theme of this year's conference was "Africa in the 21st Century: The Promise of Development and Democratization." The conference banquet featured presentation of awards to three deserving individuals namely:
Dr. Gloria Johnson, Professor of English and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Tennessee State University (The Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership, Teaching, & Research).
Dr. Olumayowa Ogedengbe, Adjunct Professor of Africology, Temple University, Philadelphia (The Global Africa Activist Award for Outstanding Public Service in the African Community).
Dr. Olayiwola Abegunrin, Professor of Political Science at Howard University, Washington, D.C. (The Distinguished Scholar Award for Outstanding Scholarship, Teaching, and Service in African Studies).
