This picture essay explores the Islamic women's headdress, the hijab, as a centre of aesthetic, spiritual, political and social affirmation and struggle, exemplified by a broad range of dazzling images of hijabi-hijab wearing women, and remarkable examples of art by Muslim women related to the hijab, in the context of moving summations, from the social to the mystical,  of the scope of significance of this mode of shaping human appearance.
