October 21, 2016 to October 22, 2016

Missouri State University, Springfield, Missouri, United States

Theme: Digital Africa
Digital technologies are prevalent in Africa and are being used by a young population determined to create a future for the continent defined by innovation and progress. We see this in new media that is used to disseminate music and film to a global audience, in the ways governments provide financial assistance to the poorest citizens, and in the way culture is being preserved and celebrated. Where and when do these technologies fit into African research? What are the benefits and challenges to these new methodologies? This year’s theme is dedicated to exploring the ways in which various new technologies are being used to shape both the present and future of Africa. Abstract submissions not directly related to the theme will also be considered.

Keynote Address

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Henry Lovejoy (University of Colorado-Boulder). His talk is titled: The Digital Humanities and African History: Linking Space and Time to Objects and Events. (Read the abstract.)
