I congratulate our friend, Toyin, for his incredible industry and productivity ?over the years and, in particular, over the past year. That this has earned him the Man of The Year spot is no surprise. More recognition and honours are bound to follow. It is no surprise to me and my wife that he has, in the almost three decades since he left Ife, soared like an eagle and shone like a meteor in the academia because we witnessed the seeds of his erudition and hard work while he was still at the University of Ife. We saw him spend long spells of time in Ibadan scooping data from the University library and the National Archives. Up to that time I had never seen anybody pore over large volumes of old newspapers for long hours as he did. He would spend weeks at a time and would collect data for one book after the other. Back in his Ife base, he spent long hours each day in his office reading and writing. Thus was the seed of the legend Toyin has become today planted : brilliance mixed with equal dose of hard work brought out the genius in Toyin Falola. Congratulations, our friend, our genius. We are proud of you.
