It appears Kanu is being held because he is a threat to national security. Whatever Kanu wants for his people, there are adequate provisions in the constitution to channel them. Also, the Ndigbo are well represented in the National Assembly and any matters of marginalization can be legally and constitutionally addressed in the two chambers.
Nigeria is one of the very few countries in Africa that allows freedom of expression.
In my own opinion, Kanu and his supporters should renounce violence and respect the constitution of the country.
Every ethnic group in Nigeria can claim marginalization. My people in Okunland in Kogi State are among the most marginalized in Nigeria. There is no visible infrastructural development like electricity, roads, transportation, water etc that attracts factories and industries. There is no State or Federal university in Okunland in spite the fact that education and agriculture are their basic industries.
The agitators among the Ndigbo should realize that dividends of democracy cannot be achieved in one day. Nigeria needs peace and security as basic requirements for infrastructural development.
The solution to our common challenges is within and not in any foreign countries or world organizations.
