Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Yahya Jammeh of Gambia Must be forced out

Why should he? why should he not? So what is Jammeh's side of the story? There was an election, he lost, he conceded and then unconceded. Let us for the sake of argument concede that there were anomalies in the electoral process. He has been in power for twenty two years, he was responsible for the anomalies. He was nobler when he conceded; and now he has lost all his nobility and is trying very hard to plunge the whole country into conflict. For the good of the society he should simply give up and try again if he wants to. If he clings to power he is inviting chaos for Gambia. Let not Gambia go the way of Ivory Coast.

"Sure, Yahya Jammeh should learn from Mahama of Ghana and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria and hand over power peaceful. perhaps, after it all we review the so-called African rising in term of liberal democracy. How well established are the roots of democracy? can they be easily evaporated by the wind of ethnoreligious crises and psychiatrical challenges of present leaders?"(Sam Amadi).

Why should he? Are the circumstances the same? Doesn't his own side of the story worth examining?

CAO.
