Adeboye Remains Head of RCCG for 20 Years, Says Son
In a dramatic twist, Saturday, The Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG) refuted an earlier announcement that the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had retired and had been replaced by Pastor Joshua Obayemi.
A statement signed by Adeboye’s last son and Personal Assistant, Leke Adeboye, said Pastor Adeboye remains the General Overseer, Worldwide of the RCCG. He said the clarification became necessary following the misrepresentation of Pastor Adeboye’s announcement at the Annual Minister’s Thanksgiving held at the Redemption Camp of the church.
He said the development followed a new legal requirement set up by the Financial Regulations Council guiding all registered churches, mosques and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) which stipulates that heads of non-profit organisations now have a maximum period of twenty years to be at the helm of such organisations while in retirement and noted that they are not permitted to hand over to their families.
Leke Adeboye said Pastor Funsho Adeola would serve as the new Church Secretary while Pastor Joseph Adeyokunu is the new treasurer.
He urged members to identify with the new structure and go about the church business of service of God, humanity and soul winning. He further urged members to avoid spreading falsehood.
