A big pat on your shoulders for this distinguished recognition. I can now put in context what I witnessed at Vanderbilt, a couple of years ago, about you and your colleagues, especially the highest esteem in which they held you as a scholar, and what they whispered in my ear about your scholarship. Congratulations!
Our prediction has come true: Professor Moses Ochonu has become the preeminent leader of his generation. He has formally been appointed to the Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair in History. Bear in mind he has declined offers from other places, most recently Yale. I will write more.
