Subject: Preview VIP Breakfast for my upcoming exhibition Rhythm & Power: Salsa in NYC
Reply-To: "Derrick L. Washington" <email@example.com>
Good evening Toyin,
I hope you're well as the semester winds down. Just as important, I hope the new year is treating you well as I'm sure you have several deadlines. At the Museum of the City of New York, I'm curating an exhibition and program series called Rhythm & Power: Salsa in New York. This work illuminates how salsa developed as an art form (music + dance), a commercial industry, and a vehicle for pan-Latino solidarity and multi-national activism in the late 1960s through the 1970s. Underway since October, it's the most expansive exploration of salsa as a cultural product ever produced.
On April 21st, I'm having a preview breakfast for elected officials, contributors, academic communities, and select co-sponsors. If you're in NYC or have a few colleagues interested in attending, please let me know. This work will be up throughout the year. I wanted to send you the link early because the official "evite" will be sent out later this week.

Briefly, the project includes the exhibition, an ongoing oral history project, professional development days for educators, film screenings, panel discussions, interactive workshops that deepen understanding of the material, academic conferences, concerts, and will have fully bilingual satellite programs in every Borough thanks to New York Park Department's SummerStage.Warmly,
Derrick León Washington, Ph.D.
