Greetings Diaspora Members:
Re: Invitation by the Governments of EAC
Our professional, research-oriented, evidence-based reports are relied on by AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities to get a better, credible and more informed understanding of the Diaspora.
While a network of Diaspora groups anticipated leadership change in ECOSOCC, which we were 100% certain will happen, much progress was made in Diaspora relations with AU Members States and Regional Economic Communities. We began by establishing relationships within the AU to advance the goals of Agenda 2063 in order to improve the quality of life of African citizens.
Please find the Concept Note with Special Emphasis on the East Africa Diaspora. However, there is request for representative participation from other RECs' Diasporas. Contributions from the Diaspora improves policy space that enables Member States and RECs to undertake developments based on domestic priorities and not donors' objectives. This is important for us, Africans, to evolve to self-reliant and sustainable developments.
Diaspora structures/networks are already established and acknowledged by governments within the political and legal context of Member States' Constitution and Diaspora policies, which automatically align with the five regions in Africa and RECs. Embassies throughout the regions have Diaspora Desks or Units.
Dr. Shem Ochuodho from Kenya and others from EAC have been working hard to develop regular interactions and consultations. My assistance is to coordinate all the regions. Secondly, the strategic approach is to link the Diaspora to national and regional counterparts.
Again, even though this is EAC, it is requested of me to ensure the ECOWAS, ECCAS, SADC, Maghreb Diasporas participate, which promotes inter-regional trade. I will provide the information on business representatives from Europe, South America, Australia/Asia, Middle East, Europe, North America, which will be sent to the EAC Secretariat.
If members of Historical Diaspora are interested in participating, let me know. The invitation from EAC will be sent directly to participants. President Kagame will welcome you all in the Land of a Thousand Hills.
Please watch out for the next e-Newsletter with very valuable information, including the program, African Economic Platform (see a brief write up) at the end of the mail, and more.
