When Prof. Toyin Falola, TF as he is fondly called broke the news of the passing away of Irele at TOFAC opening ceremony at Adeyemi College of Education Ondo, Ondo State yesterday, it was shocking because nobody was expecting the sad news of a great African literary scholar. TF asked the audience to give the late Irele a minute of silence. And the huge audience did.
We have lost an African literary icon who will be missed but his works will remain to comfort all of us.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
