USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Yoruba Affairs - University of Ilorin in Photos, 5.

Wow, I am impressed! That a university community could demonstrate and/or trigger this amount of interest for an academic gathering, not a political rally, brightens one's day. Anything that would encourage the young and old to want to be a part of an intellectual exchange is comforting. I wonder if some politicians were in attendance and took back to their chambers ideas of how to develop higher education in their respective necks of the wood. I hope, however, that attendants were there for the message/s, not the messenger/s. It is also quite encouraging to know of the existence of a superior quality auditorium capable of holding so many people inside a university campus in our country. By any world standard, this is commendable. I doubt if Oduduwa Hall of Obafemi Awolowo University could hold half that capacity, and it's among the largest of such auditoria in the country inside a university campus.

Thanks for the photo-story. I have not read the conference's communique, but I commend the organizers for pulling off the conference with so many people so successfully. It has to make one nervous to imagine a remote possibility that NEPA could manifest its usual character with such a large crowd. That would certainly not be funny. Apparently, thank God, that did not happen!

Just out of curiosity, are university students now wearing uniforms? I noticed a bunch of participants wearing what seems like uniforms. Not that it matters, anyhow.

Notice the auditorium in the photos—it can hold 4,000 and it was full for my lecture. I was told it is the biggest of all—that is, in the university system. The architect did a good job on flow—anyone can get in and out very well. But the materials used are good for sound. Behind it is an open reception area which can hold up to 1000 people. Impressive plan.
