My iPad just joined ASUU strike. Please help send to others. Uwaifo S O.
What Felix said is absolutely correct. I thought I had taken on a huge burden when I decided to educate two of my wards through our prestigious public universities. I did it all paying for trips to other African countries and all through my breast pockets. It is a joke, university education should never be that cheap if it is worth much. It is like the FGN trying to electrify every nook of Nigeria through its annual financial budget! Ludicrous, no government tackles the most capital-intensive industrial sector known to humankind that way and expect to succeed. Engr S O Uwaifo.

This is a balanced piece from a partisan which should be digested by all stakeholders in trying to reach a solution to recurring strikes in public universities. For the first time, we have an education minister who accepts responsibility for the government's part in the strike.Education is underfunded by the governments at the federal and state levels. Secondly, it is a service that is not rightly priced because it has been politicized. No government wants to confront this reality. Beneficiaries of university education must pay for it. It does not come cheap and not all applicants can benefit from it. The bright students should have access to scholarships and education loans. The government has competing claims on its resources and cannot bear the brunt of tertiary education alone. Parents, guardians and students must bear their share of the education burden.ASUU members are entitled to their pay and allowances. This can only happen if education is right-priced. There must be a meeting of stakeholders to fashion out how this can be done away from ASUU strike.Felix A. Adenaike.
