USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Special Report: Alaigbo Development Foundation Petition to the UN Secretary-- General

"As failures go, attempting to recall the past is like trying to grasp the meaning of existence." (Joseph Brodsky ::: Less Than One)

It's strange that during my almost four years sojourn with the Igbos (1981-1984) when we discussed the Biafra War, I mostly heard the term "Hausa-man" as the general title conferred by my Igbo Brethren, a title of resentment and synonymous with "Muslim", for all the Brethren from Northern Nigeria (and I got to know and like all the Northern Youth Corpers that I met in the South East, at the time, most of Corpers from the South West and East being drunkards ( drinkards if you prefer) but now "Fulani herdsmen" is the general nomenclature that fills the air. The Fulani language, my first language, the language of my childhood till the age of six, before I learned some of Her Majesty's English (overnight) you must understand that I am a little sensitive about Fulani matters. ( I am told that regression therapy would help facilitate total recall of the language, a vital part of my cultural heritage)

In the meantime, advanced apologies from an innocent Mr. Ignoramus for inquiring about this tragic episode in Nigerian history and even having to recall exactly what happened; but this calls for the Professors of the English language, reliable witness testimonies and the Professors of Nigerian history many of whom are among us.

One had thought that the combatants in the Biafra War were not militias of "Fulani herdsmen" but the Federal Military on one side and the embattled and besieged Biafrans on the other side.

So, as the Alaigbo Development Foundation Petition to the UN Secretary-- General painstakingly make their case about what they fear is a "looming" threat of another genocide of Ndigbo (with - so they claim, 3.5 million dead in the last war) to what extent does the wording of this statement correspond to the truth of exactly what happened?

In petitions of this type, the meanings ought to be clinically clear and devoid of any ambiguity or room for misunderstanding or misinterpretation:

Re - "On May 6th, 2016, ADF was constrained to issue a Distress Call, on behalf of our people, alerting the world of the massive mobilization by the Fulani herdsmen intent on waging a jihadist genocidal war against Ndigbo and massacring them as was done during the Biafra war of July 6th, 1967 to January 15, 1970"

Is this a historical fact? Did the "Fulani herdsmen"ever declare that they were " intent on waging a jihadist genocidal war against Ndigbo and massacring them "?

That sentence/ statement gives the inescapable/ unmistakable impression that there was a massive mobilisation by "the Fulani herdsmen" who then waged "a jihadist genocidal war against Ndigbo" and massacred the aforementioned Ndigbo during the Biafra War of July 6th, 1967 to January 15, 1970."

Implied : "and massacring them as was done ( by the Fulani herdsmen) during the Biafra war of July 6th, 1967 to January 15, 1970"

Is that a fact?

Did this happen? Did "the Fulani herdsmen mobilize massively , "intent on waging a jihadist genocidal war against Ndigbo" and in fact fulfil their intention by massacring Ndigbo during the Biafra War of July 6th, 1967 to January 15, 1970."?
