Chidi, Odia and Obi:
Thanks to you all for reviving our interest in poetry. Lamikanra still pursues his annual event in Ilesa; Okediran continues as well.
If you are in Lagos, Freedom Park and Bogobiri are great venues to listen to poems. The cast of new talent is too good to be true. Twice at Bogobiri, I did not get a space to even stand. New forms of nationalism have emerged around hybrid identities: Igbo who speak only Yoruba; Yoruba who speak only English; folks from other African countries who congregate in cosmopolitan spaces and imagine new homes. Romantic love, with or without ganja! Pidgin, creole, new words that are not in the dictionary….
I am currently initiating a new reading club at Ibadan.
I write mediocre poems as well, so mediocre that many will be shared after my death.
