Subject: Another for Peace & Love
Dear Friends & Colleagues,
It's me again. Yeah, I know... Sorry, but what can one do on Veterans Day without sharing something for indubitable peace & love? What can one do? What?
So here goes two offerings to help lift up our souls in these tough times.
The first is a poem by William Stafford that's at the core of non-violence, peace and rights. The second is Kora music by the amazing Gambian multi-instrumentalist and Griot, Sona Jobarteh and her band (the first song in the series should be enough to make your day big time!). No commentary on them by me this time
Untitled
By William Stafford
This is the field where the battle did not happen,
where the unknown soldier did not die.
This is the field where grass joined hands,
where no monument stands,
and the only heroic thing is the sky.
Birds fly here without any sound,
unfolding their wings across the open.
No people killed – or were killed – on this ground
hollowed by the neglect of an air so tame
that people celebrate it by forgetting its name.
And now Sona Jobarteh & Band (she is, by the way, the first professional Kora player):
With Peace & Love,
Akwasi
