Perhaps Microsoft will engineer some self-control mechanism for the kind of moderation we have in mind? A Gambian Forum ( Bantaba) had a filter that was supposed to filter out "bad" words from entering their holy forum space. I once posted Bereshit - the Hebrew title of the First Book of the Torah, known as Genesis. The over-sensitive filter only caught the tail-end of the word ( shit) and amputated it - so my posting didn't get through
Harry G. Frankfurt regaled us with two books, one "On Truth" and the other "On Bullshit" siamese opposites
( Like APC and PDP)
And last night I read Rabbi Lazer Brody's Insult: It's All for the Very Best
About the good that can come out of insults.
Now ain't that marvellous? Almost like the green light to go ahead,
No red card, not even a yellow card, all Zidane gets for butting the other guy in the head
is a green card….
And then there are those who claim to be "thick Skinned"
claim some kind of crocodile skin immunity when it comes to penetrability
Of their egos when lo in fact behold: they have weak, rather shallow, maybe hollow
Egoes, even if they are the first ones always seething through their teeth
Talking about egg, delicate eggs and often to be heard crowing,
" Don't you know that you have to break egg in order to make an omelette? "
Don't we know?
Just for the record , it's time to take care of two words and their meanings as meant by normal people :
All I said was " I presume that you would like to take over as moderator ( at least temporarily), perhaps, to show all of us how things should be properly done in this forum - according to the Baba Kadiri methodology? "
To which S.Kadiri alias "Ogunlakaiye" replies " Contrary to your assertion, I have no intention of taking over from Professor Falola as a moderator"
The question remains: When and where did Cornelius ever make such any such assertion ?
But, we should not discount dyslexia and the various grades of its severity as a factor. For example, in this thread (Abolaji Adekeye) I thought that I read :" The beam in the Child's eye has helped him to see the speck in the eyes of other people"With Wordsworth's My Heart Leaps Up lingering at the back of my head, I could have been mislead into reading "child" instead of Chidi into the text - that Wordsworthian poem from which we get another line of cultural literacy : "The child is father of the man"
And taking that a little further, on the same trajectory , we have Odia Ofeimun
"true, the future we look forward to
also takes us by the hand to the past we left behind;
the secrets of evolution which taught us to fly
makes us siblings of the dinosaurs quitting creation's ant-holes"
Again, just now, I thought I read " assholes " not "ant-holes" ( No Freudian slip there I assure Mr. Everybody)
And that too is modified by Obi (Obi Nwakanma) who moderating someone else's- choice sequence of words thinks that it should be
"true, the future we look forward to
also takes us by the hand to the past we left behind;
evolution which taught us to fly
makes us siblings of the dinosaurs"
Which leaves me gasping: Why doesn't Obi go and write his own poem, play his own solo saxophone, piano, guitar instead of sitting on the sideline dishing out suggestion on how to re-do what has already been done, in Odia's case, years ago ? Next he'll want to wake Shakespeare up from the slumber in his grave to suggest to him a re-write of " To be or not to be " - according to Obi
As Viscount Aluko would here endeth, "and there you have it."
