I doubt they would be able to listen.
I doubt if I were in the presence of trump I could stand to listen to him.
I imagined an ideal toward which to strive, but my limits are pretty strong, keeping me from attaining that ideal.
If we could understand where people were coming from, in calmness, maybe we could help reshape the world better.
