Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Teaching While Black

Thanks for sharing.

The dilemma of Black people-where is the Black person to call home, since even a significant no of their own nations are significantly problematic?

In the continent's most populous nation and one of its more active economies, the govt is in alliance with nation colonizing terrorists steadily eating up hundreds of lives on an almost daily basis.

What are we to do? In our own nations, we are not at home. The Europeans are careful of us. In North America we are on their radar as potentially swamping their nations. The Asians dont want us. The Middle East, including Israel harbours some of the worst racism agst us.

Even when highly developed in skill and knowledge, some dont want to know, as in the account by Ibezim Ohaeri that companies come to Harvard seeking law graduates but dont want Africans.

Yet, in the midst of all this, some, like Toyin Falola, Nimi Wariboko, Gloria Emegwali, V.Y. Mudimbe, etc are able to rise to the top of the heap.

How are they ding it? Through relentless, quality work, the power of which is undeniable?

God have mercy.

Right on o.o. We enjoy lots of privileges as tenured full professors who belong to the class of the petit bourgeoisie. It is not only vulnerabilities and sufferings that we face, we also enjoy our job despite all a that. No be so?

This "mendicant" approach* to racism suggests some naïveté on GY's part — a mendicancy that Malcolm X succinctly nailed down.

*"White man, white woman, why don't you love us in spite of our top cognitive credentials?"
