Subject: Yoruba Affairs - TOFAC news, 1
Greetings from Nairobi
The United States International University is an impressive campus. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Zeleza, distinguished historian, led the tour yesterday. His excitement for the University is difficult to match. Their library is well stocked with access to all journals. They are building a research park and a medical school.
The students are well integrated with the administration and management of the school. A lot of high tech. With gym, health services, cafe, etc, it is a holistic campus. Students are drawn from 75 countries.
I heard a revolutionary statement: the University is debt free!
The idea of a University is well established: a green environment, conducive learning spaces, and highly mobile and intelligent students. Members of Faculty take research seriously.
I spoke with several students who are very happy with their programs and confident of their future. I met with students leaders.
The room for expansion is limitless.
With private universities running very well, hopefully the public ones may be pressured to undertake far reaching reforms.
Africa is rising, and you and I must rise with it.
