The opening ceremony went well with speeches by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Amos Njuguna, the Chair of the Organizing Committee, and the Keynote.
Professor Funmi Olonisakin, Vice President, King's College,London, delivered the keynote. She is Africa's best known scholar on peace and security studies. She has worked for the United Nations and the brain behind the African Leadership Center.
Her lecture focuses on the African Agency—how cases show clearly the dominant impact of Africa in world politics. She suggests various ways to rethink the concept of agency and leadership. "Those who don't talk, who don't come to the table, and who are silent" represent the forces and agency that we must always take seriously.
After the opening, the conference breaks into four simultaneous panels.
