"Exploring Every Corner of the Cosmos in Search of Knowledge"

I'm pushing for the recognition, as books, of texts on multiple online platforms, unified by an introduction that explains the logic of their integration and a list of contents that links to the various chapters.

I'm also advocating, in an era of somewhat rigid standardization of assessment criteria for scholarly books in academia, particularly in the humanities, for the recognition of the scholarly value of self published books, of the distributed digital kind I have described here, along with more conventional offerings.

I am happy to be published in the conventional understanding of what a book, and particularly a scholarly book is, but such conceptions of the book do not inspire me as frontiers that drive me to create an architecture of knowledge on the scale I am cultivating.

Responses

Suzanne Preston Blier frankly I love local works, self published especially - like one can find in Africa detailing a family's history.

Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju
Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju Thanks, Suzanne, particularly coming from you who has succeeded so well with the conventional scholarly book system.

Suzanne Preston Blier
Suzanne Preston Blier I am being honest. I really hate peer review at this juncture. I would rather read what a local individual/family sees as important than read someone's interpretation of what lots have said before.

Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju
Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju Thanks, Suzanne Preston Blier. Of course, I know you are being honest.
I see from your rich Facebook activity, coupled with your innovative work on World Map and your powerful writing and broader academic schedule that you are comfortable with going beyond academic silos.

My response to your first comment was in recognition of the value given to your appreciation of my position by the fact that you have succeeded magnificently by the conventional rules and yet can see beyond them.

Dami Toye
Dami Toye Good and Good.

Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju
Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju Thanks, Dami Toye.

Care to elaborate?

Dami Toye
Dami Toye Such a  move is a good one, it recently dawned on me that the Internet and the various platforms it makes available allow just anyone to create content which may vary in length and form and may likely be spread across different platforms not necessarily conforming with the ancient tradition of writing a book where everything is in a place.

Your crusade in the stated direction if successful I believe will enable content creators to earn royalties from same or whatever intended benefit.

Unifying such texts across multiple platforms through an introduction may be cumbersome but achievable considering the ever evolving nature of knowledge and the distraction created by reference (s) or do I say too much reference in a text that would have been better composed to flow[ better].This is Good and Good.

Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju
Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju Wow. Deeply honoured, Dami Toye.

Very grateful.
