USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re- May in Nigeria

Theresa May in Nigeria

So far there have been three serious inputs about the PM of the UK's visit to Nigeria:

The always inimitable Prof Ayo Olukotun : Fw: Prof Olukotun's Column

Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani's PRESS RELEASE: UK-AFRICA PARTNERS FOR TRADE OPPORTUNITY, the priority areas for Nigeria

And, posted by " Harry" , Salihu Moh. Lukman 's Poverty in Nigeria: Revisiting Theresa May's Concern

This is not a serious input :

On a much lighter side Al Jarreau's wedding song, I Do from the Album " All Fly Home"

The song begins

Come celebrate the season of May

When the sun comes streaming

Blessed be the Promise taken to day...."

And here one could be thinking of the marriage between the two nations, between UK and Nigeria

( a political marriage – or re-marriage) say between President Buhari representing Nigeria and Sister Theresa representing the UK – and Shakespeare comes in handy here – for those who would object , I hear Mr. Bankole Thompson my English Master in Upper Six enunciating Sonnet 116 perfectly, and smiling as he does so;

"Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Admit impediments..."

More of a Marriage of heaven and earth than a marriage of heaven and hell

I rumble on thinking of her place in his kitchen ( smile) thinking of her dancing in south Africa...more difficult to imagine a marriage between Donald the grabber and the Theresa...

Seldom do we realise that when heads of state are abroad, from wherever they are aboard they still continue to comment and react to what's happening in their home countries, even if they leave their deputies back home to be taking care of business there - such as vice president Yemi Osinbajo did creditably when President Buhari was away.

Be that as it may, must say that one was not amused reading what the UK's PM Theresa May said in Nigeria:

"Theresa May today warned Jeremy Corbyn that 'anti-Semitism is racism' as she demanded he finally act to stamp out vile abuse in Labour.

The Prime Minister offered her backing to ex-chief rabbi Jonathan Sacks who yesterday branded Mr Corbyn an 'anti-Semite' and compared him to Enoch Powell.

Speaking in Nigeria during her tour of Africa, Mrs May said Lord Sacks raised 'significant concerns' and was only the latest to speak out.

She said: 'I think the leader of the Labour Party needs to respond to those concerns.'"

Just imagine if after condemning her political rivals the Labour Party and their alleged anti Semitism she had also launched into a full-throated attack on e.g. subjects such as "tribalism in Nigeria" , " religious intolerance in Nigeria" or " The Armed Fulani Herdsmen !"

About the latter, of course President Buhari would have had some difficulty believing his ears and needless to say, it would have been very bad for business for Mrs May to lecture her hosts on any of those topics. By then she would have outstayed her welcome. President Buhari would have politely reminded her

It's true that I travel to the UK for medical attention ( ear problems) but please remember that we are no longer your colony so please don't come here to talk to us like that. And furthermore let me assure you, there is no anti-Shemitism in Nigeria. We don't have it here. As you know we have much better things to do, we are more busy trying to curb the brethren in Boko Haram from doing any more harm to our own nation and our neighbours in Cameroon "

And , oh! I forgot . She could have also taken up the matter of Witchcraft in Nigeria , possibly the "witchcraft" also bedevilling the anti-Semites in the UK and everywhere else, since it is both the devil and the anti-Semites work to try to silence the message of the Torah; it's a matter said to be presently also bedevilling sectors of America, therefore this pastor's concern in his sermon, Witchcraft and the Jezebel Spirit Manifesting against President Trump and America
