Buhari is a "British citizen by birth", because, at the time of his birth, his place of birth was part of British colony.
The Nigerian constitution says that for one to qualify to vie as President of Nigeria, that one must be "Nigerian citizen by birth".
Only persons born on or after 1st October, 1960, can be said to be "Nigerian citizen by birth".
One can however, argue that when Britain transfered sovereignty to Nigeria on 1st October, 1960, the citizenship of those born before the date of transfer of sovereignty was also transfered to Nigeria.
