We appreciated and still appreciate Nigerian Journalists like late Andy Akporugo Sr., late Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu and others because they did their jobs well, not because they had big cars and houses. Now, if you do not have big cars and big houses as a Journalist or blogger, you are deemed a failure by the society.
Take myself for example, I started "chidi opara reports" (news blog) in December, 2007, I have since then refused to publish gossip and sensational materials.
Even though the blog is one of the reasons the Institute of Information Management, Africa, conferred me with "Professional Fellow In Information Management" last year, I have not got much in terms of financial rewards, but a certain gossip blogger and sensational news peddler, now swims in money.
The younger breed of Nigeian Journalists, would rather, follow the current easy trajectory to fame and money, that seems to be what the present society want, unlike the past society.
This is the dead end of modern day journalism in Nigeria.
