By Chidi Anthony Opara
The tension is thick,
The sharp swords
Of the good gods swing,
The time bombs tick too,
Famine
Is imminent in Eden.
Cock crows are muffled
By the sound of praise songs
Sang by drunken minstrels.
The songs of songbirds cease,
The voices of reason are discordant.
Our values
Are on the verge of vanishing.
Reveling in lucre
Our rulers rage at each other,
Dueling on dual citizenship,
Dueling on certificates devoid of authenticity,
The world leers and jeers.
The people lie prostrate
Weeping and begging
For the termination
Of this dinner with the devil.
