USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Pope Francis & S. Sudanese Protagonists

SIR Toyin:
I still remember the serious efforts of your group to bring peace to South Sudan! Just like other noble efforts, that failed, too. Since Dr. Riek Machar
and I were contemporaries at University of Bradford in West Yorkshire, UK,  where we enjoyed a lot of A.B.-cooked Jollof Rice and peanut butter soup
on weekends, I thought I could also help the South Sudanese peace effort from behind-he-scenes. After all, when Brother Riek (as I called him) was earning
his Ph.D.  in Civil Engineering, I was completing my first ever Postdoc (a research M.Phil option) in Peace Studies at the same time on the Bradford campus.

I agree with you, SIR Toyin, that the hatred between the two leaders, coupled with their ethnic (tribal) differences, is too intense to allow common sense to
prevail; academically and intellectually, for example, there is also that massive gulf between Kier and Machar! If the Pope succeeds, and the two South Sudanese
political leaders agree to work together to end the bloodbath, they will deserve the Nobel Peace Prize more than the Pennsylvania Avenue Joker and his Korean
Entertainers! How about that?

A.B. Assensoh.

My humble self once served on the peace mission. It is tough. We all failed. Then there is the Obasanjo report. He failed. Mamdani minority report. He failed. The Thabo Mbeki report. He failed.

Those people hate one another with so much intensity.
