On behalf of the Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Foundation (ACUF) and its partners, I am greatly delighted to invite you to the 2019 Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Annual National Asthma Conference. The Conference will hold on Thursday, 18th July 2019, at the Oakland Hotel in Enugu, Nigeria. The session starts at 9.00 am.
The 2019 Conference with the theme: Better Breathing, Better Living: The Role of the Environment and Governance' has the overreaching goal to identify the linkages between governance and environment and its impact on better breathing and living with the aim to an increased awareness of asthma burden and improved asthma management behaviors in both short and medium term, while reducing asthma and other respiratory diseases morbidity and mortality rates in the long term.
The Conference will be chaired by Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu– former Minister for Health. At its core, the conference will feature keynote papers by Prof. Tunji Olaopa and Prof. Benjamin S.C. Uzochukwu. Other Key Speakers at the Conference are Dr. Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili– Former World Vice President and Former Ministers for Education and Solid Minerals; Prof. Gregory Efosa Erhabor–a Consultant Chest Physician; Prof. Rowland Ndoma-Egba –former Pro-Chancellor & Chairman of Council, OAU, Ile Ife; Dr. Adaeze Ayuk - Consultant Pulmonologist; Dr. Henry Ademola Adigun – an Oil & Gas Governance/Development Expert; Dr. Ifediora Amobi –former SSA to the President on National Development and Larry Oguego –National Coordinator of Human Rights Volunteer Corps. We are also expecting special addresses from some of the Special Guests of Honour, State Governors and the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The 2019 Conference being organized in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the NCD Alliance Nigeria, Nigeria Thoracic Society (NTS) and Knowledge and Policy Management Initiative (KAPOMI) is a follow-up to 2017 Annual Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Annual National Asthma Conference held on July 6, 2017, with the theme: "Improving the Quality of Life of Nigerians: The Role of Timely and Accurate Diagnosis and Management of Asthma". The Conference held at Roban Hotels, Enugu was chaired by Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na'abba, and had H.E. Dr Emmanuel E. Uduaghan, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Science and Technology and over 500 persons in attendance. The event had over 700 media reportage across the world.
The Annual National Asthma Conference draws participants from the federal government agencies, the 36 state governments and FCT, private sector, civil society and international development agencies.
The Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Foundation (ACUF) is a non-profit, non-governmental and charitable organization established in November 2016 in memory of Mrs. Amaka Chiwuike-Uba who died from asthma exacerbation on July 4, 2016. The ACUF is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people; especially, those with asthma, allergy and respiratory diseases through research, education and training, advocacy and networking. ACUF envision a society with better breathing, better living and a people that are happier, healthier, united and prosperous.
