I would like to have help on these subjects relating to the Nigerian Civil War.
Some sources present the capture of Bonny by Benjamin Adekunle's 3rd Marine Commandos as in June 1967 others in June 1968.
I'm puzzled bcs I did not understand the Nigerian side had mobilized sufficiently by mid 1967 to launch such an assault nor did I understand 3rd Marine Commandos to have been formed at that time.
I had thought the Nigerian side's first decisive mobilization was in the defeat of Banjo's forces at Ore much later in the year, breaking the Biafran Midwest occupation and the planned occupation of Ibadan and Lagos.
In relation to the sequence of the war, I am curious as to why the SW, and other parts of the South eventually joined in the war agst Biafra.
I had thought the Biafran occupation of the Midwest and the attempted occupation of the SW was what mobilized these peoples agst Biafra but a school of thought holds that the whole of Nigeria was already mobilized agst Biafra before the Midwest occupation.
thanks
